Starting As We Mean To Go On

Posted by on January 18, 2015

This morning, despite icy cold conditions and the only road to the curling rink being shut due a traffic accident, it was the ice inside the rink that presented the biggest challenges.  The Scottish team were anxiously waiting for our arrival, and once we were all at the rink safe and sound (but very late), Team Rees played together in our first ever Bonspiel match.

Four games had been played between England and Scotland already this weekend, but it was up to us to secure the Tom Ballantyne Trophy by defeating former Scottish Champion Billy Howat and his rink.  It was a back and forth game with lots of great shots, but ultimately it was a solid team performance and a great competitive debut for us.  We were losing 6-3 but stole singles two ends in a row to make it 6-5, before setting up a sneaky steal of 3 in the final end, to win the match 8-6.
